What We Write About

Written By The People In The Chair

The Journal exists because the same questions come up week after week, and a two-minute answer between appointments never quite does them justice.

Hair & Colour

Technique, Explained Plainly

What separates balayage from foils, why lightening has a limit, how long a keratin result really lasts and what shortens it. Written by the colourists who do the work, so the detail is the same detail you would get in consultation rather than a simplified version of it.

Skin

What Actually Changes Skin

Which treatments build results over a course and which are one-off, how often a facial is genuinely useful, and how to prepare so an appointment is not wasted. Our skin specialist writes these, including the parts that argue against booking something you do not need.

Bridal & Occasion

Timelines That Hold Up

When to book a trial, when to stop trying new things, and how to sequence colour, skin and nails across the months before a wedding. Mostly written as calendars, because that is the form the question always takes.

Why It Is Not A Blog

We publish roughly monthly and only when there is something worth saying. There is no content schedule to fill, no keyword list, and nothing written by anyone who has not stood behind the chair doing the thing they are describing. Every entry carries the name and role of whoever wrote it, so you can see whether a piece about colour was written by a colourist or a copywriter.

If a piece here saves you a wasted appointment, or convinces you that the service you were about to book is not the one you need, it has done its job. Several of these articles started as a question a client asked in the chair, which we then realised we were answering almost weekly.

About The Journal

Journal Questions

Who writes the Journal?

The artists themselves — our colourists, therapists and skin specialists write about their own disciplines rather than a marketing team writing around them. Each entry carries the name and role of whoever wrote it.

The aim is that an article says the same thing your artist would say in the chair, at the same level of detail.

How often do you publish?

Roughly monthly. We would rather publish one properly considered guide than fill a schedule with thin posts, so the pace follows what is actually worth writing about.

Can I ask for a particular topic?

Yes — mention it at your next appointment or send it to the studio email. A good proportion of what appears here started as a question someone asked in the chair and we realised we were answering weekly.
